The Monday Question

“What am I going to do to move my business forward this week?”

August 3, 2026

Define Good

You probably know what a good month looks like for the business. Here’s the test though. Ask the person running your front office, or your lead out in the field, what a good month looks like for them. If you get a shrug, you’ve found the reason “good” still lives in your head and nowhere else.

A definition only you can see doesn’t move much. So take yours and break it into pieces. Give each department, even each person, their own measurable, their own version of what “good” looks like this month. The office might own quotes out within two days. The crew, jobs closed out clean. Sales, close rate. It’s the same move you made for the whole business, handed to the people who move each number.

When everyone’s carrying their piece, you stop being the only one who knows if the month is on track. Your team can tell you, because each of them can see their own number. That’s when “good” starts to run without you standing over every job.

This week, take your definition of a good month and give one piece of it away. Pick one person or one department, and hand them the number that’s theirs to own.
