Frequently asked questions
What does The Good Plans Co do?
We coach small business owners to run their business by the numbers instead of by gut feel. We help you build a budget, set up a dashboard that tracks the numbers that matter, then meet with you regularly to turn those numbers into decisions that move your business forward.
How does the coaching work?
It's built on three pieces that work together: a budget that sets the plan, a dashboard built on that budget and your goals, then regular coaching where we look at your numbers together and decide what to do next. You enter your numbers each week and we meet on a rhythm that fits your schedule to turn them into action.
What are KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)?
KPIs are the handful of numbers that tell you how your business is doing, like gross profit margin, close rate or on-time delivery. The right ones turn a vague sense of how things are going into something you can see, track and act on. We help you choose the few that matter most for your business and put them somewhere you'll keep an eye on them.
What happens on a discovery meeting?
It's a free 30-minute call. We talk through where your business is right now, what's working, what feels stuck and whether coaching is the right next step. You'll leave with a clearer sense of your best next move, whether or not we end up working together.
Who do you work with?
Owners who want to understand their numbers and use them to run their business better. The approach works in any industry. If you're tired of guessing and want to make decisions from numbers you trust, you're who we built this for.
Do I need to be good with numbers or have perfect books?
No. Most owners we work with don't love spreadsheets and plenty arrive unsure their numbers are even right. You don't need perfect books to start. We help you focus on the numbers that matter and make sense of what they're telling you. You bring the knowledge of your business and we bring the system.
Can you help organize my QuickBooks?
Not the QuickBooks itself. We're not bookkeepers and that work is best left to the experts who do it every day. What we can do is read the reports it produces, help you make sense of them and suggest changes that make your numbers clearer and more useful. If your books need real cleanup, we'll point you to someone who handles that.
How much time do I need to commit?
Not much to keep it running and as much as you want for growth. Entering your weekly numbers takes 10 minutes or less. We meet twice a month for an hour of coaching. Beyond that, we recommend setting aside at least an hour a week to work on the actions that move your business forward. If you need to start smaller than that, starting small is great too.
